Soldiers who complete recruit training and CMS(R) are, essentially, infantrymen (although not infantry specialists).  The skill-set they acquire during that process will come in useful throughout their military career.  However, for any soldier in the Royal Yeomanry those skills are only the foundation on which much more needs to be built.

In order to be useful to HQ (Westminster Dragoons) Squadron, The Royal Yeomanry when on a field exercise, soldiers need to possess a suite of specialist trades.  Being able to switch roles from driver to signaller to rifleman makes it much more interesting for the soldier, too.

Prior to or within six months of promotion to Lance Corporal, soldiers of the Royal Yeomanry need to pass the Junior Non-Commissioned Officer Cadre and should also undertake the Defence Instructional Techniques course if they have not done so already.  One of the best instructor trade courses open to soldiers of HQ Sqn RY is Army Physical Training Instructor.  Junior NCOs may also be able to undertake the Combat Support Trooper and Basic Close Combat Instructor courses, as WDs have recently done.
