Pay (Effective 1 April 2006)

As a volunteer with the Territorial Army you receive the same basic rates of pay as a regular soldier or officer of equivalent rank for every full or part day of training. In addition, your travelling expenses when eligible are also paid. You are paid a quarter day’s pay for Wednesday evening training.

Pay is subject to tax and, under certain circumstances, to the deduction of National Insurance contributions. Pay will increase as you progress through the ranks and acquire trade qualifications.

Bounty

Provided you undertake the necessary training, you will receive a tax-free bonus, known as a bounty. In order to earn your bounty you have to attend a minimum amount of training, pass certain basic military tests and attend a 15-day annual camp.
