RTC (Recruit Training Centre)

Once your application to join the TA has been approved, you will be placed on a military foundation course run over a course of weekends at a Recruit Training Centre (RTC).   Currently, course consists of six training weekends held over a three-month period.

At the RTC, recruits undergo a graduated training regime which will encompass the foundation skills vital to all British Army soldiers.   Amongst the subjects taught are basic weapon handling, battlefield first aid, CBRN defence, foot drill, fitness training and fieldcraft.

Weekends 1 and 2 are designed to introduce you to the British Army; weekends 3 to 6 condition and train you.

Recruits find these weekends both challenging and interesting. There is also a social aspect to them. You will meet fellow recruits from different squadrons within the Royal Yeomanry. Friendships made in the midst of the challenges of military training are long-lasting.

On successful completion of the RTC stage, you will be qualified and prepared to attend your CMSR course.
