What We Do

In light of the lessons learned from the Iraq conflict in 2003, the Westminster Dragoons' role is expanding with an increased emphasis on the CBRN reconnaissance role.
Reflecting this, the squadron’s established size is increasing by one-quarter this year. We now augment the capabilities of the Joint CBRN Regiment the Light Dragoons and and the Household Cavalry Regiment, using a range of cutting edge detection equipment and reconnaissance skills.

The specialist field of reconnaissance, detection and surveying of weapons of mass destruction in the battlefield context is technically and physically challenging. This means that while remaining Royal Armoured Corps soldiers first and infantrymen second, members of the squadron must also learn more complex skills and techniques.
